
The Indian Armed Forces celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025, with great enthusiasm.
They held yoga sessions across challenging locations, from the icy Siachen Glacier to the Indian Ocean and forward bases in Jammu and Kashmir.
The celebrations reflected the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” underlining yoga’s vital role in boosting resilience, discipline, and unity within the armed forces.
PM Modi leads grand event at RK beach
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the flagship Yoga Day event at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam, where more than 11,000 naval personnel and their families participated in a mass yoga session.
The Indian Navy extended the celebrations across all naval stations and warships, including vessels docked at foreign ports in Mauritius, Oman, and Malaysia, demonstrating India’s naval presence and cultural outreach.
Defence Minister joins soldiers in Udhampur
In Udhampur, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led yoga celebrations at the Northern Command Headquarters, performing asanas with 2,500 Indian Army soldiers.
He highlighted yoga’s link with mental clarity and discipline, praising its relevance during critical operations like Operation Sindoor.
At the world’s highest battlefield, Siachen Glacier, Army personnel demonstrated remarkable endurance by performing yoga in sub-zero temperatures, reaffirming yoga’s power to enhance physical and psychological resilience in extreme conditions.
Air Force, Coast Guard, and NCC Join Nationwide Observance
The Indian Air Force (IAF) organised yoga sessions at Air Force Station, New Delhi, aligning with its motto, “People First, Mission Always.”
Meanwhile, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) launched its “Yoga Sangam” campaign across over 60 coastal and island locations, with Director General Paramesh Sivamani leading the central event in Noida.
Thousands of ICG personnel and their families participated nationwide.
In a massive nationwide effort, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) mobilised over 900,000 cadets for synchronised yoga sessions at iconic locations from Leh to Kanyakumari and Rishikesh to Tezu.
The initiative reflected yoga’s growing role in India’s youth and wellness movement.
Yoga is embraced as a way of life in the armed forces
Across commands and services, the Armed Forces demonstrated that yoga is not merely a wellness activity but a cornerstone of daily routine, operational readiness, and national strength.
The coordinated effort across land, sea, and air sent a powerful message of unity, inner strength, and dedication to the principles of health and harmony.
