North Korea Condemns UN Report On Human Rights Abuses

North Korea on Monday fiercely rejected a recent United Nations report alleging human rights abuses in the country, labeling the document as “fabricated and fictitious.” The North Korean government claimed the report was designed to tarnish its reputation.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ report, which the UN General Assembly will receive, calls on North Korea to investigate, prosecute, and hold accountable those responsible for human rights violations, Yonhap news agency reported.

In response, Kim Son-gyong, North Korea’s Vice Foreign Minister, accused external forces of fabricating the report to damage the country’s image. The Korean Central News Agency quoted Kim condemning what he described as a political provocation that undermines North Korean sovereignty.

Kim urged the UN to focus on human rights abuses in the United States instead, arguing that such issues are more pressing and widespread than those in North Korea. He criticized the UN’s stance, asserting that the organization should address what he called rampant hate crimes and inhumane acts occurring in the US.

North Korea has consistently dismissed external criticisms of its human rights record as part of a US-led campaign aimed at destabilizing its regime.
