Israeli tanks participated in a targeted raid in northern Gaza overnight, the army claimed Thursday, as it prepared for a ground assault.
In a statement, the Israel Defence Forces stated, “Overnight, the IDF conducted a targeted raid using tanks in the northern Gaza Strip, as part of preparations for the next stages of combat”.
“The soldiers exited the area at the end of the activity”, the statement reads.
Late Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that “we are preparing for a ground offensive” in addition to the intensive bombing campaign against Hamas-controlled Gaza.
According to Israeli officials, on October 7, crowds of Hamas gunmen flooded into Israel, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and capturing 222 more.
As per the numbers given by Gaza’s Hamas-controlled health ministry, more than 6,500 Gazans have already died as a result of Israel’s aerial attack.
According to the Israeli military, soldiers located and struck numerous terrorists, terror infrastructure, and anti-tank missile launch posts, and operated to prepare the battlefield during the nocturnal attack.
A military spokesman stated that this was not the first time Israeli soldiers and tanks had invaded Gaza for brief incursions since October 7.
