Iran has vowed to take decisive action against those responsible for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, accusing Israel of orchestrating the attack.
Iran describes the killing of Haniyeh, who was in Iran for President Masoud Pezeshkian’s inauguration, as a cowardly act and a blatant violation of international law.
On Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani announced that Iran would respond with strength and decisiveness to punish the alleged aggressor, citing both its inherent rights and international legal principles.
Iran plans to address the incident through international channels, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is likely to hold an emergency Foreign Ministers’ meeting on Wednesday.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has explicitly blamed Israel for the assassination and has vowed a harsh and painful response.
IRGC Chief Hossein Salami warned that Israel would understand its miscalculation once Iran retaliates.
The assassination has intensified regional tensions.
While Iran has stated that it does not seek escalation, it has emphasized its determination to defend its territory and citizens against any further attacks.
