Trump Cites India–Pakistan While Claiming To Have ‘Ended Eight Wars’

Donald Trump invoked India and Pakistan as he described what he saw as a wide-ranging record of ending global conflicts. He informed his Cabinet that certain disputes would never have taken place if he had been president then.

The US President used these claims to underscore what he viewed as his success in preventing crises.

Trump further asserted that he had already ‘ended eight wars’, including those linked to South Asia.

Speaking in the Cabinet Room at the White House, Trump outlined his foreign-policy achievements. He said these included reducing tensions in regions closely followed by Indian and wider South Asian audiences.

“We ended eight wars. Think of that, eight wars,” he stated. “What about the other eight wars, India, Pakistan, think of — think of all the wars I ended.”

Trump maintained that Washington’s posture under his leadership had reshaped decision-making in several strategic arenas.

Turning to Eastern Europe, Trump contended that the Russia–Ukraine conflict ‘would not have happened’ had he been president at the time. He also claimed that efforts were currently underway to broker an agreement.

“Our people are over in Russia right now to see if we can get it settled,” he told reporters.

Framing his stance as humanitarian, he said he was moved by the mounting casualties.

“I care about death. I care about all the people who are dying. 27,000 people died between Russia and Ukraine last month,” he said, lamenting the continuing violence.

The US President linked these claims of progress to what he characterised as a resurgence in American influence.

“America is strong and respected again,” he asserted, noting increased NATO commitments and recalling, “I went to a NATO, and they were calling me the president of Europe.”

For many in India, Trump’s remarks matter because US engagement in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia and the wider Middle East continues to influence India’s strategic landscape.

His brief mention of India–Pakistan tensions came as he emphasised avoiding lengthy US military entanglements and instead favouring economic pressure paired with personal diplomacy.

Trump credited the same approach for shaping US actions in Gaza, Sudan and other conflict zones.

“Every time I end a war, they say, if President Trump ends that war, he’s going to get the Nobel Prize,” he said, adding that a previous laureate had told him he deserved the honour.

Vice President JD Vance endorsed the president’s narrative. He argued that the administration had been working to ‘fix what Joe Biden and the Democrats created’.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, meanwhile, characterised 2025 as ‘the most transformational year in American foreign policy since the end of the Second World War, at the very least’. He praised Trump’s practice of putting ‘America at the forefront of every decision’.

Rubio also credited the president with helping to secure several sensitive ceasefire arrangements. He said Trump’s direct engagement had proven pivotal in securing a Gaza ceasefire.

“No other leader in the world could have pulled off what happened in Gaza,” he said, crediting the president with assembling a wide-ranging diplomatic coalition.
