PIB Warns Against New India Post Scam As Fake Delivery SMS Targets Users Nationwide

A renewed phishing scam impersonating India Post has prompted an urgent warning from PIB Fact Check, after a fraudulent SMS began circulating widely among mobile users across India.

The scam message claims a package cannot be delivered due to an ‘incomplete address’. It urges recipients to update their details through a malicious link such as ‘trackingukg.pics/u’.

A screenshot of the message, shared online and marked ‘FAKE,’ highlights the growing sophistication of these cyber-fraud attempts.

According to PIB Fact Check, this deceptive tactic forms part of a recurring phishing campaign that has repeatedly resurfaced across 2024 and 2025.

Authorities detected similar fake delivery messages over the past several months, particularly in September, October, and November 2025. They debunked each of these scams to warn and protect the public.

The scammers typically exploit the rising volume of online shopping and parcel deliveries. They create a false sense of urgency to lure unsuspecting users into clicking dangerous links.

India Post has firmly reiterated that it never sends unsolicited SMS requesting address updates, payment confirmations, or personal information. Any message claiming otherwise is fraudulent.

Beware Fake Messages

Officials stress that the postal department does not use unfamiliar web links or ask customers to access third-party websites for delivery updates.

Genuine communication from India Post is always linked to its official domain and verified channels.

Cybersecurity experts warn that clicking on the malicious link can expose users to multiple risks, including identity theft and malware installation.

They caution that scammers can gain unauthorised access to sensitive information such as bank details, passwords, and personal documents.

The link may mimic a legitimate India Post portal, prompting users to fill out forms that directly transmit their data to cybercriminals.

PIB Fact Check urges mobile users to delete such messages immediately and avoid interacting with any suspicious link.

Individuals who clicked the link or entered personal information should immediately change their passwords and monitor their bank accounts.

They should also contact the relevant authorities to prevent further misuse of their data.

Victims or individuals who receive the fraudulent SMS should report it to factcheck@pib.gov.in. This helps authorities track patterns, issue timely alerts, and protect other users from similar scams.

Officials emphasise that public awareness remains one of the strongest tools against cyber fraud.

As digital services and online deliveries continue to expand across India, authorities warn citizens to remain vigilant.

Users are advised to verify all delivery notifications, rely only on official websites, and treat any unexpected request for personal information with extreme caution.
