BJP Scores Big In MCD Bypolls; CM Rekha Gupta Applauds Public Mandate

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended heartfelt thanks to the citizens of Delhi after the Bharatiya Janata Party registered a significant victory in the recently concluded MCD bypolls.

The results, declared on Wednesday, saw the BJP winning seven out of twelve wards, marking a strong political statement in the national capital.

In a message posted on X, CM Gupta expressed her gratitude, saying that the people of Delhi had blessed the BJP with overwhelming support. She added that the victory stood as proof of the tireless efforts and dedication of party workers, as well as the collective strength of the organisation.

Gupta also congratulated the winning candidates and reiterated her government’s commitment to Delhi’s development.

Leaders Respond to the Victory

BJP leader Kapil Mishra celebrated the result on social media, describing it as a sweeping victory for the party. He claimed that the outcome signalled a public rejection of the Aam Aadmi Party, especially in historically significant areas such as Chandni Chowk and Chandni Mahal.

Mishra further highlighted that the results reflected the leadership vision of CM Gupta, as well as the determination of Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and grassroots workers.

The bypolls, conducted across 12 MCD wards on 30 November, witnessed a voter turnout of 38.51 per cent—lower than the turnout in the 2022 civic elections. Of these wards, nine were previously held by the BJP and three by AAP.

The BJP’s winning candidates included Rekha Rani (Dichaon Kalan), Sarla Chaudhary (Vinod Nagar), Veena Asija (Ashok Vihar), Suman Kumar Gupta (Chandni Chowk), Anita Jain (Shalimar Bagh), Anjum Mandal (Greater Kailash), and Manisha Devi (Dwarka B).

The AAP secured victories in Dakshin Puri, Mundka, and Naraina, with candidates Ram Swaroop Kanojia, Anil, and Rajan Arora, respectively.

Congress also opened its account, with Suresh Chaudhary winning the Sangam Vihar-A seat. Meanwhile, Mohammad Imran of the All India Forward Bloc won from Chandni Mahal.

Election Arrangements and Political Landscape

Ten counting centres across Delhi used strongrooms and controlled entry points, the State Election Commission said.

Before the bypolls, the 250-member MCD House comprised 115 BJP members, 99 from AAP, 15 from the Indraprastha Vikas Party, and eight from Congress.

The bypolls were seen as the first major political test for the BJP following its recent Assembly election triumph.

For AAP and Congress, the bypolls represented an opportunity to strengthen their foothold in the capital’s political landscape.
