India Reacts to Iran’s Drone Strikes on Israel, Signaling Major Escalation in West Asia

President Biden also held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who vowed a robust response to the attack, asserting Israel’s readiness for a direct confrontation with Iran, which it has been anticipating for years.

India expressed grave concern over the escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, emphasizing the threat to peace and security in the West Asia region, the Ministry of External Affairs announced today. This statement comes in the wake of Iran’s recent drone and missile assault on Israel.

“We urgently call for de-escalation, restraint, cessation of violence, and a return to diplomatic channels. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, with our embassies in the region maintaining close contact with the Indian community. It is imperative to uphold security and stability in the area,” the ministry asserted.

In a significant development, Tehran launched over 200 drones and missiles toward Israel, citing self-defence following an attack on Iran’s diplomatic mission in Damascus. The Israeli military reported successful interception of most incoming missiles before breaching Israeli airspace.

US forces have been actively neutralizing drones launched by Iran towards Israel, according to a defence official. “Our troops are prepared to provide further defensive assistance and safeguard US forces in the region,” the official affirmed.
