Guyana’s PM Mark Anthony Phillips expressed strong support for India’s efforts to combat cross-border terrorism during a meeting with the Indian Parliamentary delegation led by Shashi Tharoor in Berbice on Sunday evening (local time).
The Indian High Commission shared details of the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), noting that Phillips received a briefing on Operation Sindoor and India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.

Guyana’s Leadership Shows Unified Stance Against Terrorism
Phillips became the second top Guyanese leader to voice support for India’s fight against terrorism in recent hours.
Earlier that day, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo met the delegation and declared, “Guyana stands unequivocally with India.”
Jagdeo emphasised, “We are against terrorism, and we believe that all those who perpetrate terrorist acts must be brought to justice.”
Following their discussions, the High Commission confirmed that Phillips reiterated Guyana’s strong backing of India’s measures against cross-border terrorism and highlighted the broad scope of cooperation between the two countries.
Delegation Participates In Guyana’s Independence Day Celebrations
The Indian delegation joined the midnight celebrations of Guyana’s 59th Independence anniversary in Berbice, approximately 65 kilometres from Georgetown, where President Mohammed Ifraan Ali delivered the Independence Day speech.
The High Commission noted that the delegation plans to engage with Guyanese leadership, media representatives, the Indian community and diaspora, and friends of India.
These interactions aim to underline India’s message of unity, brotherhood, and collective resolve to eradicate terrorism.
Led by Shashi Tharoor of the opposition Congress Party, the delegation includes MPs from various Indian political parties: Shambhavi (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmad (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), Milind Murli Deora (Shiv Sena), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya (BJP), and GM Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party).
This diverse group symbolises India’s bipartisan unity in addressing terrorism.
Global Outreach Following Terror Attack And Operation Sindoor
The Guyana visit is part of seven Indian parliamentary teams worldwide conveying India’s position following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam by The Resistance Front, linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayiba.
After India launched Operation Sindoor to dismantle terror bases, Pakistan retaliated with attacks targeting civilian sites, escalating tensions.
