EU Chief On Gaza Tragedy: No Excuse For Hitting Hospital

All those responsible must be held accountable

EU Chief

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen stated on Wednesday that there is no excuse for hitting a hospital full of civilians in Gaza, but she did not assign culpability.

The president of the European Commission told EU legislators that facts need to be established about the midnight strike on the Gaza hospital that killed at least 200 people.

Israel and Palestinians both blame one other for the blast, which sparked street protests against Israel across the Middle East.

Von der Leyen told the European Parliament in Strasbourg that the overnight explosion transformed the hospital into a hell of fire.

“All those responsible must be held accountable”, Leyen added.

Von der Leyen, EU Chief, who visited Israel last Friday to express sympathy with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, has been chastised by certain European Union countries for allegedly favoring Israel over Palestinian citizens.

This led a videoconference gathering of EU leaders late Tuesday to stress the bloc’s twin message: that Israel has the right to defend itself following Hamas’s bloody October 7 attack, but only in accordance with international humanitarian law commitments.
