Six airports in France were evacuated on Wednesday after receiving threats of attack by email, the latest in a string of such threats in recent days.
According to the reports, the evacuations at Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Nice, Toulouse, and Beauvais airports near Paris would allow officials to clear up any doubts that the threats were legitimate.
Other bomb threats in France have occurred since Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, as has Friday’s fatal stabbing of a teacher in the northern city of Arras by a man professing loyalty to the Islamic State group.
A DGAC aviation representative verified only evacuations due to bomb alerts in Lille, Lyon, Toulouse, and Beauvais, and was unable to provide further details immediately.
Significant delays were reported by the DGAC’s online dashboard at Lille, Lyon, and Toulouse.
Nice airport tweeted, “Following an abandoned baggage item… a security perimeter was set up to allow the usual checks. The situation has now returned to normal”, through its official ‘X’ handle.
The all-clear was also given by airport authorities at Lyon’s Bron airport.
An airport spokeswoman in Lille said three flights had been diverted, while a post on its ‘X’ handle indicated security personnel were on the site.
Passengers were confused on social media, with some apparently unaware of why they were being escorted out of airports.
