The death toll from dengue fever in Bangladesh has neared 100 this year, according to official figures. The Bangladeshi government confirmed three more deaths on Saturday, bringing the total fatalities to 95 since January, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The Ministry of Health reported that the deaths occurred in various months: 12 in September, 27 in August, 12 in July, and 8 in June.

From September 1 to September 7, health authorities recorded 2,366 new dengue cases, adding to the 6,521 infections reported last month. In the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 a.m. local time on Saturday, the country saw 403 new cases.
Since January, Bangladesh has reported a total of 15,207 dengue cases. The monsoon period from June to September is traditionally the peak season for dengue fever in the country, which is highly susceptible to the mosquito-borne illness.
Dengue fever, caused by the dengue virus transmitted through mosquitoes, presents symptoms such as high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pain, and a characteristic rash.
