Rawalpindi prison authorities have firmly rejected reports circulating on social media claiming that former Prime Minister Imran Khan has either been shifted from Adiala jail or is in critical condition.
A statement issued by the jail administration confirmed that the PTI founder remains in the prison premises and is ‘fully healthy’, receiving continuous medical care as required.
Officials called the rumours ‘baseless’ and stressed that they are professionally monitoring Imran Khan’s well-being.
Local media, including The News International, noted that authorities are attempting to counter misinformation surrounding the former premier’s condition.
The clarification comes amid a growing outcry from PTI leaders, who have urged the government to publicly dismiss the rumours and immediately facilitate a meeting between Imran Khan and his family.
The party said it was unacceptable that Khan’s sisters had repeatedly been denied permission to visit him.
According to Dawn, PTI leaders said they were concerned about Imran Khan’s whereabouts because authorities had barred his sisters from meeting him in recent weeks.
Social media speculation further fuelled anxiety, with several users alleging that Khan’s health had deteriorated or that he was no longer in Adiala jail.
PTI emphasised that the government held full responsibility for ensuring Imran Khan’s safety and constitutional rights, and vowed to pursue legal and political avenues to counter the rumours.
Protests Outside Adiala Jail
On Tuesday, PTI staged a lengthy sit-in outside Adiala jail after police prevented Khan’s sisters—Aleema, Noreen, and Uzma Khan—from meeting him.
This marked their second major protest in recent weeks. Protesters raised slogans, questioning the authorities’ motives and demanding transparency regarding Khan’s condition.
Aleema Khan publicly questioned whether authorities had moved her brother elsewhere and called the situation ‘deeply concerning’.
She criticised the heavy police deployment and stated that she would remain at the protest site until granted permission to meet him.
Noreen Khan also condemned the authorities’ actions and argued that they were ignoring court orders permitting family visits.
PTI further accused police of manhandling Khan’s sisters during an earlier attempt to meet him.
Aleema Khan accused the female police personnel of behaving ‘shamelessly’ and warned that Pakistan would descend into ‘the law of the jungle’ if authorities continued violating constitutional protections.
