Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand will visit India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 13 to 16 for discussions aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties, Global Affairs Canada announced on Monday.
In New Delhi, Anand will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to advance cooperation in trade, energy, people-to-people ties, security and defence. The discussions will focus on priorities outlined in the bilateral roadmap.
The meeting will mark the 11th interaction between the two foreign ministers since September 2025, reflecting renewed diplomatic engagement between Ottawa and New Delhi.
Trade and Strategic Cooperation in Focus
The visit comes as bilateral trade between Canada and India reached $30.4 billion in 2025, including $11 billion in goods, according to the Canadian government.
Both countries are seeking to strengthen their economic and strategic partnership amid changing global economic and security conditions.
Anand will also attend the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, where she will participate in a panel discussion on middle powers and the changing global order.
Global Affairs Canada said she would underline the importance of multilateral and plurilateral cooperation amid geopolitical uncertainty. She will also highlight Canada’s role as a reliable partner for India and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for nearly 80 years and share extensive people-to-people connections.
After completing her India engagements, Anand will travel to the UAE for talks with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
She will also meet senior government officials and business leaders to explore opportunities for stronger commercial partnerships. Discussions will cover defence and security, artificial intelligence, innovation and people-to-people ties.
The visit will build on commitments made during Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s November 2025 trip to the UAE, the first by a Canadian prime minister in more than four decades.
The two countries established a roadmap to expand cooperation in trade, investment, regional security and bilateral exchanges.
