The Army contingent secured six gold, eight silver and six bronze medals, accounting for nearly 24 per cent of India’s overall tally of 85 medals. Its six gold medals doubled the contingent’s gold-medal count from the previous edition.
The Army deployed 62 athletes, including nine women, across 15 disciplines, with notable performances in shooting and athletics.
Naib Subedar Neeru Dhanda won two gold medals and one silver in shooting, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in the women’s trap event at the Asian Games.
Naib Subedar Gulveer Singh secured three individual athletics medals, while Havildar Sawan Barwal won marathon silver, ending India’s 44-year wait for an Asian Games medal in the event.
General Seth praised the athletes’ dedication, hard work and determination, drawing parallels between sporting excellence and the spirit of a soldier. He further sought their feedback on areas requiring improvement and credited the Mission Olympics Wing and the Army’s sporting ecosystem for their achievements.
The Army chief expressed confidence in an even stronger performance at the 2028 Olympics, encouraging the athletes to embody the spirit of the ‘Sporting Yoddha’.
The achievement follows the Army’s 16-medal haul at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, comprising eight gold, seven silver and one bronze.
