The Delhi Police has declared a few metro stations as sensitive areas in advance of the high-level preparation of the G20 Summit at Pragati Maidan including Dhula Kuan, Khan Market, Janpath, Supreme Court, and Bhikaji Cama Place.
The Delhi Metro has issued a commuter advisory in light of the G20 Summit. From September 8 to September 10, entry and exit gates at a few sensitive stations will be shut. While regular services will continue on other routes, a few gates will be open at some stations.
As per directives from the Delhi Police Metro Unit a few metro station gates will be closed leading to the VVIP route and the summit venue from September 8 to 10 in order to provide tight security arrangements for the G20 Summit to be held on September 9 to 10.
At the following Metro stations: Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Munirka, RK Puram, IIT, and Sadar Bazar Cantonment, traffic will be restricted. The nearest metro station to the event, Supreme Court, will also be completely closed.
Between September 7 and September 11, travelers going to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) are advised to take the metro route.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced “Tourist Smart Cards” available in two categories: one-day and three-day validity, to handle the anticipated spike in passenger numbers during the G20 Summit.
These cards are available for Rs 200 and Rs 500, respectively, with a Rs 50 refundable security deposit, and they offer unlimited metro journeys.
A detailed advisory outlining the G20 Summit’s traffic limitations and movement guidelines has been prepared by the Delhi Traffic Police. These limitations will be in effect from September 7’s evening to September 11.
