Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off five Vande Bharat Express trains at once on June 27, 2023, bringing the total to 23 of these trains. The Vande Bharat trains can replace the Shatabdi Express because they follow the same timetables and routes.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the Vande Bharat Express is said to be the fastest train in India and will save travel time by 25% to 45%. Originally intended to go at 160 kilometers per hour (mph), an improvement has allowed it to travel at a top speed of 180 mph.
Although the train’s commercial operations are limited to 130 mph, even that speed cannot always be maintained. India’s railway networks are currently being modernized so that these trains can run as quickly as possible.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her Union Budget 2022-23 speech, that up to 400 new-generation Vande Bharat trains would be produced over the next three years.
