Hema Malini: "Where Are The Opportunities Today?"
Hema Malini wears various hats, including actor, producer, director, politician, and dancer. The 74-year-old, who has appeared in hit films like Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, and others, continues to adorn our screens with films like Baghban. The mother of two, however, thinks that in contrast to their male counterparts, author-backed jobs for female actors have diminished over time.
In an interview with Mid-Day, the seasoned actor stated, “Where are the opportunities today?” Even now, female actors do not often get author-backed roles; instead, male actors get them. Even today, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan is given such fantastic roles since they are created just for him. Yet, actresses have not yet had such unique roles created for them.
The actor continued, “It would be fantastic if someone could create a role specifically for me. I believe I have the ability to perform effectively.
The diva recently spoke out about female performers wanting to carry on acting after marriage, telling the media, “I will not react to this much because I never stopped, I got married and continued working non-stop. So perhaps people saw me and are following me. It’s nice, the husband should understand that the woman whom he married, she is a very talented person and people love to watch her.”
She said, “But the wife has to sacrifice a little, being a wife. She cannot immediately produce a child, then you know there is a stop. So if you are at that age and you are ready to work then why not. If the producers are ready to sign you for such a huge amount and all then great.”
