On August 25, 2024, a Ukrainian attack on the village of Rakitnoye in Russia’s Belgorod region resulted in five deaths and 12 injuries. Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov announced the casualties and the severe damage inflicted on local infrastructure via his Telegram channel.

The attack caused extensive destruction, including the demolition of 10 private homes, two commercial buildings, and four passenger vehicles. Governor Gladkov stated that a house-to-house inspection will be conducted during daylight hours. He also assured that emergency and recovery services would commence restoration work soon.

This incident follows an escalation of attacks over the past 24 hours. On August 24, the Armed Forces of Ukraine targeted over 30 settlements in Belgorod. These attacks affected nine districts in the region, causing injuries to five individuals. Gladkov reported these details in a previous Telegram post.

In response to the increasing conflict, Russia declared a federal-level state of emergency in the Belgorod region last week. The escalation comes as Ukrainian forces continue their offensive near the Russian border.

In related news, Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that Russian forces are actively repelling Ukrainian attacks. According to the Ministry, Ukraine has lost more than 360 servicemen and 29 armored vehicles in the past 24 hours.
