On August 25, 2024, flash floods and landslides struck North Maluku, Indonesia, resulting in at least seven deaths. Additionally, two people were injured, and several more are feared missing, according to local disaster management and rescue agencies.
Heavy rainfall, which began on Saturday, triggered these disasters in Ternate City on Sunday. Fehby Alting, head of North Maluku’s disaster management and mitigation office, confirmed the fatalities and injuries. He emphasized that the affected residents urgently need tents, supplies, mattresses, and other essential items.

The local search and rescue office has reported that more families are expected to report missing members as the situation unfolds. Currently, soldiers, police, local search and rescue teams, disaster management staff, and volunteers are engaged in the ongoing rescue efforts.
