Calcutta High Court

A Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court on Thursday imposed a penalty on West Bengal Madrasah Service Commission (WBMSC) for delaying the results of the recruitment examination for non-teaching staff by 13 years.

The petitioner contends that this decision discriminates against candidates adhering to instructions, disadvantaging them in the ranking process and endangering their future prospects.

On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected the BJP's plea challenging a Calcutta High Court order barring offensive advertisements against the TMC.

"Not everyone in the courts is bad. I respect the judiciary. But the person who has given this order... I will not accept it," CM asserted while addressing an election rally at Panihati of the Dumdum parliament constituency.

Overall, the Supreme Court's intervention has temporarily halted the implementation of the High Court's order, providing a reprieve for the affected individuals and highlighting the broader issues surrounding the appointment process in public institutions.

The petition filed by the state government highlighted the High Court's failure to comprehend the repercussions of canceling the entire selection process.

In addition to cancelling the appointments, the High Court ordered the initiation of a fresh recruitment process within fifteen days by the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC).

Gangopadhyay sent a letter of resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, copying Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of India and Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam of the Calcutta High Court.

Supreme Court has advised the petitioner to seek relief from the Calcutta High Court, given that the court has the authority to for Special Investigative Team.

The bench advised the petitioner to observe proceedings in Chanda's court and, if possessing independent evidence, seek intervention therein.
