The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to file a supplementary chargesheet in the case of the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, shedding light on possible tampering and alteration of evidence in the case’s early investigation phase.
Initially handled by Kolkata Police, the case was transferred to the CBI following an order by the Calcutta High Court. The supplementary chargesheet will reportedly implicate two key individuals as conspirators: Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Tala Police Station. Both Ghosh and Mondal are currently in judicial custody.

Sources close to the investigation indicated that the CBI will highlight non-cooperation from the accused as a significant factor in their arguments. Ghosh declined to undergo a narco-analysis test, although he consented to a polygraph examination.
Mondal, however, refused both a polygraph and narco-analysis test. Under Indian law, such tests cannot be conducted without the consent of the individuals involved.
In a related development, the trial is set to begin on Monday in a special court, where the victim’s father is expected to be the first witness. The trial will be held on a fast-track, daily basis to ensure a swift judicial process.
Last month, the CBI filed its initial chargesheet, naming civic volunteer Sanjay Roy as the primary accused in the case. The initial chargesheet also flagged concerns about evidence tampering during the preliminary investigation led by Kolkata Police, leaving open the possibility of interference with the case’s integrity.
The forthcoming supplementary chargesheet aims to further unravel the alleged conspiracy and establish a clearer picture of the case, especially regarding potential mishandling of evidence.
