The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is preparing for Maha Kumbh 2025 with an unprecedented vision. Extensive development projects worth thousands of crores are reshaping Prayagraj, enhancing infrastructure and facilities to accommodate millions of pilgrims from around the world. Devotees and local priests, familiar with previous Kumbh fairs, describe these efforts as “a marvel.”
Among these transformations, the revival of the Dwadash Madhav Parikrama stands out. The circumambulation ritual, closed since 1991, was reinstated in the 2019 Kumbh by CM Yogi’s directive, following the suggestion of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad leaders. This decision, noted by Anupam Parihar in his book on Prayagraj’s spiritual heritage, has brought new benefits to pilgrims and priests alike.
Ahead of Maha Kumbh, the government has allocated a special budget for the restoration of historic temples and sites in Prayagraj. Major landmarks, including Akshayvat, Saraswati Koop, Bade Hanuman Mandir, and Dwadash Madhav Mandir, are receiving significant upgrades. The Yogi government aims to restore Prayagraj’s ancient spiritual allure, blending tradition with modernity to enhance the Maha Kumbh experience.
