Indian Developers Made 5.2B Projects On Github: CEO Thomas Dohmke Appreciates

Thomas Dohmke, CEO of GitHub, recently applauded India for having the “fastest-growing developer population” in the world, underscoring the country’s impressive growth in the tech sector. In a post on social media platform X, Dohmke highlighted India’s ascent as a “global tech titan.”

“Of course, I have to show some love to India. Now the fastest-growing developer population on the planet, India’s rise as a global tech titan is inexorable,” Dohmke wrote.

The post featured an infographic showing that India’s contributions to projects on GitHub reached 5.2 billion, with 108 million new repositories created in 2024. Dohmke likely based his comments on GitHub’s user data.

“India’s developers have gone a leap further: they’re increasingly using AI to build AI,” he noted, adding that India ranks second globally in contributors to public generative AI projects. This, he suggested, sets the stage for India to potentially produce the next major AI multinational.
