As preparations for Maha Kumbh 2025 gain momentum, the Uttar Pradesh government has rolled out an extensive sanitation plan to ensure cleanliness and hygiene on an unprecedented scale.
With millions of pilgrims and tourists likely to converge in Prayagraj, the initiative aims to create a safe, clean, and accessible environment, setting a global benchmark for mega-event management.
A Cleaner For Every 10 Toilets
The cornerstone of the sanitation drive is a meticulous cleaning framework.
The Yogi government has announced that one cleaner will be deployed for every ten toilets, supervised by one officer for every ten cleaners. Similarly, for urinals, one cleaner will manage every twenty units under the oversight of a designated supervisor.
This system is to ensure continuous maintenance and quick response to hygiene needs.
Authorities have prioritized safety measures for cleaners, ensuring workers receive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves, masks, and protective footwear.
This not only enhances the efficiency of the cleaning process but also safeguards the health and well-being of those responsible for maintaining hygiene.
Upgraded Sanitation Infrastructure
All sanitation facilities at the event will adhere to stringent cleanliness standards. Floors, tiles, and washbasins will be regularly scrubbed and sanitized to remain spotless.
Additionally, essential supplies like soap, hand sanitizers, and feminine hygiene products will be readily available at every facility.
Toilets will also equipped with functioning flush systems, taps, and jet sprays to ensure a seamless experience for users.
Accessibility remains a key focus, with at least ten percent of the toilets designed to cater to persons with disabilities.
The government has also committed to situating these facilities in easily identifiable and accessible locations, complete with proper lighting and signage.
Advanced Waste Management Systems
To tackle the challenge of waste disposal and odor control, advanced technologies are being deployed.
Odor-neutralizing systems will ensure that any foul smells are eliminated within 10 to 15 minutes.
Additionally, waste decomposition units will process refuse within 24 hours, keeping the environment fresh and hygienic even during peak usage.
Preparations For Peak Days
With major bathing festivals drawing massive crowds, the sanitation plan will scale up operations on these high-traffic days.
Additional cleaning staff, suction machines, and waste disposal units will be mobilized to handle the surge effectively.
The government has assured that all facilities will function seamlessly, even during the most crowded periods of the event.
A Global Model For Cleanliness
Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana described the initiative as a pivotal step in upgrading sanitation standards at mass gatherings. She stated, “Our aim is to provide a stress-free and hygienic experience for all devotees and tourists attending Maha Kumbh 2025.”
