A man suffered severe injuries in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, when his wife reportedly poured boiling water on him, suspecting him of having an extramarital affair, as per authorities. As Ashish Rai, the victim, attempted to escape his wife’s attack, he was allegedly assaulted by his father-in-law, and his brother-in-law pushed him off the terrace.
Following the incident, Ashish received initial treatment at a nearby hospital before being transferred to Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College in the city for further care. According to Ashish, the incident occurred on April 13 when he visited his in-laws’ house with his wife to see his unwell brother, as per her request. Upon arriving at his in-laws’ house, Amrita asked him to stay overnight.
While the couple were sleeping in a room, Ashish recounted that Amrita woke up in the middle of the night, fetched hot water from the kitchen, and threw it at him. Ashish added that his sister-in-law had stored the boiling water in the kitchen.
Ashish further stated that as he attempted to flee, his father-in-law attacked him, and his brother-in-law shoved him off the terrace while sharing his story with the media.
Bhim Kumar Gautam, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Deoria, stated that four individuals have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the incident, and the accused woman has been detained.
