The opposition leaders’ chants against the BJP administration, which centred on the ‘cash-for-query’ case and the Ethics Committee’s suggestion that TMC MP Mahua Moitra should be expelled. It was a turbulent beginning to the winter session of Parliament. Riding high on its recent electoral successes, the BJP plans to take on the Congress-led opposition during the meeting.
The demand for Moitra’s expulsion and the introduction of measures like the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill 2023 are among the important legislative issues that will be discussed. The Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973, Indian Evidence Act (1872), and Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 are all set to undergo significant modifications as a result of these proposals. There is also a law on the agenda that governs the appointments of the Chief Election Commission and other election commissioners.
