“BJP knew poll results 2 days before counting”: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh

Digvijaya Singh, a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh and a Congress leader, claimed that the BJP’s election victories were the result of EVM hacking. He then went on to accuse others of electoral malpractices in a new post on X.

Two screenshots, one from Facebook and the other from the Election Commission of India website’s results page, were shared by the Congress MP.

“Look at these two pictures closely. BJP functionary writes how many votes each candidate received in Khachrod Assembly seat and what is the margin. Importantly, this post was made two days before the counting – December 1. Now match this with the results,” Mr Singh wrote in Hindi.

In the Madhya Pradesh constituency of Nagada-Khachrod, Dr Tejbahadur Singh Chauhan of the BJP defeated Dilip Singh Gurjar of the Congress by a 15,927 votes.

The Facebook post that Mr. Singh was referring to was posted from Anil Chajjed’s profile. Anil Chajjed calls himself a “digital creator”. It has more than 5,000 followers since it was founded in 2015. Multiple photos of Mr. Chajjed at party rallies and with the victorious BJP candidate are included in the profile. There are posts on the profile endorsing the BJP.

Mr. Chajjed reports in a post dated December 1st that 1,78,364 votes were casted in the Ujjain district Assembly constituency. According to the post, the Congress nominee received 77,000 votes, while the BJP candidate received 93,000. Predicted two days prior to the vote count, the numbers closely matched the final vote totals of 77,625 for the Congress and 93,552 for the BJP.

Responding to the claims of Singh, BJP leader and MLA Rameshwar Sharma said, “He (Singh) doesn’t trust anyone, he doesn’t trust EVM, he doesn’t trust himself.”
