Village Sarpanch Shot Dead In MP, Probe Underway

In the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh, unidentified motorbike riders shot and killed a sarpanch on Monday, according to police, who speculated that the shooting may have been motivated by an old grudge.

Around 11 am today, the incident occurred in the district’s Gayatri Nagar area under the jurisdiction of the Padav police station. Sarpanch of Banehari village Vikram Rawat was identified as the deceased.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh Chandel told ANI, “Sarpanch of Banehri village Vikram Rawat on Monday was going to court and during this some people shot him dead. Rawat was shot with five bullets in the incident. It was said to be a case of old enmity and there had also been a dispute among them in 2021.”

The police have opened an investigation into the matter and have registered a case. SSP Chandel stated that efforts are being made to quickly apprehend the offenders and that due to the gravity of the situation, police are on high alert in the area.
