The State Capital Region (SCR) has been designated over an area of 27,000 square miles, encompassing Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and five adjacent districts. This initiative mirrors the National Capital Region (NCR) concept, aiming to foster regional development and integrated planning.
The SCR includes the districts of Barabanki, Unnao, Hardoi, Sitapur, and Rae Bareli, in addition to Lucknow. Covering 27,826 square miles, the region is set to benefit from enhanced infrastructure, improved transportation facilities, and a comprehensive development plan.
The primary goal of establishing the SCR is to accelerate regional development, yielding several key benefits:
1. Development of Modern Infrastructure:
– Construction of modern roads, bridges, and public transport facilities in the SCR districts.
2. Improved Coordination:
– Enhanced coordination in regional planning and development activities.
3. Investment Promotion:
– Encouragement of investments in SCR areas, leading to new employment opportunities.
4. Environmental Improvement:

The state government has devised a detailed plan for SCR development, which includes the following highlights:

– Promotion of Smart City initiatives in the SCR districts.
2. Cleanliness and Green Areas:
– Implementation of special schemes for cleanliness drives and green area development.
3. Education and Health:
– Expansion and upgrading of education and healthcare facilities.
4. Housing and Urban Development:
– Special emphasis on housing schemes and urban development projects.
The establishment of the SCR is poised to unlock new avenues of development for Lucknow and its surrounding districts, contributing to regional prosperity. This initiative by the state government is expected to not only enhance basic facilities but also stimulate regional economic growth.
“Many individuals from various cities are eager to settle here permanently, leading to increased population pressure in the surrounding districts. There are frequent complaints about unplanned development. To address future needs, an ‘Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region’ should be established similar to the National Capital Region (NCR),” he stated.
