The State Capital Region (SCR) has been designated over an area of 27,000 square miles, encompassing Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and five adjacent districts. This initiative mirrors the National Capital Region (NCR) concept, aiming to foster regional development and integrated planning.
SCR Declaration and Area Coverage
The SCR includes the districts of Barabanki, Unnao, Hardoi, Sitapur, and Rae Bareli, in addition to Lucknow. Covering 27,826 square miles, the region is set to benefit from enhanced infrastructure, improved transportation facilities, and a comprehensive development plan.
Objectives and Benefits of SCR
The primary goal of establishing the SCR is to accelerate regional development, yielding several key benefits:
1. Development of Modern Infrastructure:
– Construction of modern roads, bridges, and public transport facilities in the SCR districts.

In September 2022, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched this initiative
“Many individuals from various cities are eager to settle here permanently, leading to increased population pressure in the surrounding districts. There are frequent complaints about unplanned development. To address future needs, an ‘Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region’ should be established similar to the National Capital Region (NCR),” he stated.
