Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool MP expelled out of the Lok Sabha in December 2023, received a request on Tuesday to leave her government residence immediately. The Directorate of Estates issued the directive.
TMC leader’s allotment was canceled earlier, and she was asked to leave the house by January 7. The Department of Environment (DoE) sent her a notice on January 8 asking her to respond to it within three days explaining why she hadn’t left her government housing. She received a second notice on January 12. The TMC leader was instructed by the Delhi High Court on January 4 to submit a motion to the Department of Education (DoE) to be permitted to stay in the government apartment that was assigned to her.
In addressing Moitra’s appeal against an official notice requesting her to leave the government bungalow by January 7, Justice Subramoniun Prasad pointed out that the regulations allowed the authorities to grant an extension of stay of up to six months to a resident under special circumstances, provided certain fees were paid.
On December 8 of last year, Moitra was found guilty of “unethical conduct” and was expelled from the Lok Sabha for reportedly receiving gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and giving him access to her user name and password for the Parliament website.
