All accused in the international cyber fraud case, which allegedly defrauded US citizens of $15 million, have entered CBI remand following orders from the Rouse Avenue Court. The court sent Shubham Jain, Ambuj Mathur, and Shailendra Kumar Gautam to CBI custody for four days, while Abhishek Bisht will remain in CBI custody for two days. Previously, the CBI had arrested all four in connection with the cyber fraud case and initially placed them in judicial custody. The CBI had applied for a 5-day remand for the accused. Two additional suspects, Dhairya and Dhruv Khattar, will stay in CBI custody until August 3.
Judicial Magistrate Nishant Garg, who handled the case, stated that the court needed to send Abhishek Bisht, Ambuj Mathur, Shubham Jain, and Shailendra Kumar Gautam to CBI custody. He cited the need for custodial interrogation to uncover more details about the crime, the involvement and whereabouts of other suspects, and the flow and recovery of proceeds from the crime.
The magistrate specified that, based on the investigating officer’s request, Abhishek Bisht’s police custody would last a minimum of two days. Accordingly, he sent Ambuj Mathur, Shubham Jain, and Shailendra Kumar Gautam to four days of police custody. The court set August 5, 2024, as the date for their next appearance. Due to Abhishek Bisht’s medical condition, the court limited his police custody to two days.
CBI Additional Public Prosecutor Saurabh Singh argued that during a search of the accused’s residences, the CBI recovered Rs 17.99 lakh in cash and other objectionable materials from Shailendra Kumar Gautam’s premises. Similar materials were found at the residences of the other accused.
