Political Posters Spark Tensions As Bihar Gears Up For Elections

As Bihar gears up for its upcoming Assembly elections, the political battle has moved from podiums to public spaces, igniting a heated poster campaign on the streets.

On Saturday, a controversial poster near Patna’s bustling Income Tax intersection sparked renewed tensions between the ruling alliance and the opposition.

The poster depicted Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav riding a buffalo, with Tejashwi in front and Lalu chewing grass behind him.

“Mera Baap Chara Chor, Mujhe Vote Do” (My father is a fodder thief, vote for me), the caption read, pointing a jibe at Lalu Yadav’s fodder scam conviction.

Though no group has taken responsibility for the poster, it has triggered strong reactions.

RJD supporters have condemned it as a personal and offensive attack. The party, however, has yet to release an official statement.

Reacting to the controversy at an International Yoga Day event, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary reaffirmed the allegations.

“Lalu Yadav has been declared a banned criminal by the Supreme Court. He committed the fodder scam. So, where is the second opinion on this? All courts have said he is a fodder thief,” he further asserted.

RJD hits back with counter posters

In response, the RJD has countered with its own poster campaign, targeting leaders from the ruling NDA.

These new posters, now visible at multiple locations, feature prominent NDA figures — including Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, State Minister Ashok Choudhary, and the late Ram Vilas Paswan — shown with their sons-in-law.

Labelled the ‘National Damaad Commission’, the posters take aim at the alliance for alleged nepotism.

What started as a single provocative image has now grown into a full-blown poster war, filled with biting sarcasm and personal barbs.

As election season intensifies, the streets of Bihar are becoming canvases for political messaging, highlighting the sharp stakes and fierce rivalries shaping the run-up to the polls.
