As the world marks the International Day of Yoga on June 21, Bollywood celebrities including Shilpa Shetty, Malaika Arora, and Sandeepa Dhar have shared powerful messages about the importance of yoga, not just as a physical practice but as a holistic way of life.
Actress and wellness icon Shilpa Shetty celebrated Yoga Day by urging her followers to embrace yoga as a daily habit for health and happiness.
She posted a video on Instagram showing her practising yoga and a voiceover message about the significance of balance in life.
“Balance isn’t a hidden treasure that can be discovered easily; it’s something you create through conscious choices and consistent daily habits,” Shilpa said. “You are the creator of your own life and well-being.”
She emphasised the importance of shaping one’s routines, setting boundaries, and adapting to changing priorities.
“As our circumstances shift, so must we. Whether it’s mind, body, soul—or vata, pitta, kapha—there’s nothing more powerful than yoga to restore harmony,” she added.
In her caption, Shilpa reflected on this year’s Yoga Day theme, Yoga for One Earth, One Health, stating, “When we have just ONE of something, we MUST value it… Let’s value health, earn it and preserve it not just for ourselves but for the benefit of our entire ecosystem.”
Fitness enthusiast and actress Malaika Arora marked the occasion by sharing a montage of her yoga sessions.
The video carried an inspirational overlay, “Yoga isn’t just a practice. Committing daily, being consistent, and watching your life change is a lifestyle. Flow through your day, and embrace the sunrise with yoga. Close the day with a heart full of peace and gratitude.”
In her caption, she echoed this sentiment, “Yoga isn’t just for a day. It’s for life. So start your day with yoga, end with peace and gratitude.”
Actress Sandeepa Dhar offered a deeply personal take on Yoga Day, reflecting on her decade-long journey with the practice.
She revealed that she initially pursued yoga for fitness and weight management, but it eventually transformed her understanding of breath and presence.
“Over a decade ago, I stepped onto my first mat chasing fitness goals,” she said. “But somewhere between those early sun salutations and today, yoga taught me something I didn’t even know I was missing—I was breathing wrong.”
Sandeepa emphasised that yoga helped her reconnect with a natural breathing rhythm and instilled a sense of groundedness.
“Yoga didn’t just correct my posture or strengthen my core; it gave me back my breath. And with it, the ability to be present.”
She concluded with a powerful insight, “Yoga isn’t just about the poses we hold or the calories we burn. It’s about coming home to ourselves. It’s about finding gratitude in the simple act of breathing deeply.”
