Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has declared Farhan Akhtar’s war drama 120 Bahadur, which honours the valour of Charlie Company of the Kumaon Regiment, tax-free in Delhi. The decision recognises the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the 120 soldiers who fought in the 1962 Battle of Rezang La.
CM Gupta praised the film for highlighting the inspiring leadership of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, portrayed by Akhtar, in a tribute shared on her official X account. She wrote that the film reflects the bravery and dedication of the soldiers, whose heroism remains a defining symbol in India’s military history.
The Delhi Government expects the tax exemption, effective from 28 November, to encourage audiences of all ages. It aims to attract viewers to watch the cinematic retelling of the historic battle.
By removing ticket taxes, the Delhi Government, however, aims to make the story of the Charlie Company soldiers more accessible to moviegoers. This initiative also honours their legacy on the big screen.
Farhan Akhtar’s portrayal of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati has earned widespread appreciation.
Veteran actress Shabana Azmi praised his performance, noting its sincerity and subtlety. She expressed amazement that Farhan Akhtar could so convincingly embody the legendary military leader. He had previously played Imran in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai directed 120 Bahadur, and producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Amit Chandrra released the film in cinemas on 21 November.
The film has been lauded for its respectful depiction of military history and its focus on leadership, courage, and sacrifice.
Critics and audiences, however, consider it a significant addition to patriotic cinema in India.
With the tax exemption now in place, audiences in Delhi can experience the heroic story of the Charlie Company soldiers. This also allows them to pay tribute to India’s military heritage.
