PM Modi To Meet Saudi Prince Salman Today, Trade-Economy-Defence On Agenda

The primary subjects of conversation between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s State visit today include trade, the economy, defence, and collaboration in the arts. Saudi Crown Prince visited Delhi on the first day of G20 summit for a three-day tour.

The two presidents will co-chair the First presidents’ Meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council, a bilateral agreement between India and Saudi Arabia that the two countries signed in Riyadh in 2019 today at Delhi’s Hyderabad House.

The Political, Security, Social, Cultural Cooperation Committee and Economy and Investments Cooperation Committee are the two ministerial committees of the Strategic Partnership Council that the leaders will evaluate. They will also talk on the political, security, and defense aspects of bilateral relations, trade, the economy, culture, and people-to-people ties. A government release added that they will also talk about matters of mutual interest on the regional and global levels.

With substantial people-to-people ties, India and Saudi Arabia have a long history of friendly and cooperative relations. Government statistics show that in the fiscal year 2022–2023, bilateral commerce between the two nations hit a record high of USD 52.75 billion.

PM Modi stated that India and Saudi Arabia have a Joint Committee on Defence collaboration (JCDC) that meets frequently and that the two nations have identified a number of areas of mutual interest and collaboration in the sphere of defense and security. He made these remarks during his 2019 visit to Riyadh.

Prior to his meeting with PM Modi at 11 am, the Saudi Crown Prince will be given a formal reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am.

Prince Salman will visit President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 6:30 PM after wrapping up his engagements with PM Modi and other dignitaries, and then at 8:30 PM he will depart from New Delhi.

Prince Salman is on his second state visit to India. Saudi Arabia joined other signatories to the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor during the two-day G20 Summit in New Delhi.
