The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) confirmed that the portals of Shri Kedarnath Dham will reopen on May 2, while Shri Badrinath Dham will follow on May 4.
The announcement comes as preparations for the annual Char Dham Yatra gain momentum across Uttarakhand.
On Friday evening, BKTC’s advance team arrived at Shri Kedarnath Dham to oversee arrangements and ensure a smooth reopening of the revered shrine.
Earlier this month, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reiterated the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of pilgrims.
Speaking on April 10, Dhami emphasised the Char Dham Yatra’s vital role in the state’s economy.
“We are fully dedicated to making this year’s pilgrimage safe and organised,” said Dhami. “Char Dham Yatra is not only a spiritual journey but a lifeline for Uttarakhand’s tourism and economic development.”
The state government has deployed additional resources and personnel to monitor roads, lodging facilities, and emergency services ahead of the official opening.
Additional Temples Also Announce Opening Dates
Along with Kedarnath and Badrinath, two other significant shrines in the region have confirmed reopening dates:
- Shri Tungnath Temple, the third Kedar, will reopen on May 2.
- Shri Madmaheshwar Temple, the second Kedar, will welcome devotees starting May 21.
To finalize the date for Madmaheshwar, BKTC CEO Vijay Prasad Thapliyal convened a meeting at Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath.

Local religious leaders, including members of Kedar Sabha and Tirthpurohits, praised his efforts to coordinate efficiently with the temple staff.
On-Ground Inspections Ensure Smooth Operations
Continuing efforts to prepare for the Yatra, Thapliyal conducted a detailed inspection of several key religious and logistical sites. His tour included visits to:
- Maa Barahi Temple, Sansari
- Masta Narayan Koti
- Shri Triyuginarayan Temple
- Gauramaata Temple
- Gaurikund
- Temple Committee Rest House in Son Prayag
- Sanskrit College in Shonitpur (Guptkashi)
These inspections aim to ensure infrastructure, cleanliness, and safety protocols are in place before the influx of devotees begins.
Char Dham Yatra: A Pillar Of Devotion And Culture
The Char Dham Yatra is one of Hinduism’s most sacred pilgrimages, encompassing four key shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
The journey is traditionally completed in a clockwise direction, beginning with Yamunotri, then Gangotri, followed by Kedarnath, and concluding at Badrinath.
Pilgrims can complete the Yatra by road or air, with helicopter services increasingly popular among elderly and time-bound travelers.
For those unable to visit all four shrines, many opt for the Do Dham Yatra, focusing on Kedarnath and Badrinath.

With just weeks to go, anticipation is building among spiritual seekers and local businesses alike.
As the sacred doors of Kedarnath and Badrinath prepare to open, the region braces for a surge of devotion, culture, and community spirit.
The 2025 Char Dham Yatra promises to be not just a journey of faith but a symbol of resilience and renewal for Uttarakhand and its people.
