US President Trump Urges Halt To Netanyahu Trial; Calls Charges A ‘Witch Hunt’

US President Trump has called on Israeli authorities to drop or pardon PM Netanyahu’s trial, calling it politically motivated and unfair.

Trump Netanyahu

US President Donald Trump has publicly urged Israeli authorities to cancel the ongoing legal proceedings against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or issue a pardon, describing the case as politically driven and unfair.

Taking to his platform, Truth Social, President Trump voiced disbelief that Netanyahu continues to face prosecution in the aftermath of what he termed one of Israel’s ‘greatest moments’, its recent military action against Iran.

The US President praised Netanyahu’s leadership, referring to him as a ‘warrior’ and framing the Iranian confrontation as a defining battle for Israel’s survival.

“I was shocked to hear that the State of Israel, which has just had one of its greatest moments in history and is strongly led by Bibi Netanyahu, is continuing its ridiculous Witch Hunt against their great wartime Prime Minister!” President Trump wrote.

Recounting their time working together, the US President noted, “Bibi and I just went through hell together, fighting a very tough and brilliant longtime enemy of Israel, Iran, and Bibi could not have been better, sharper, or stronger in his love for the incredible holy land. Anybody else would have suffered losses, embarrassment, and chaos! Bibi Netanyahu was a warrior, like perhaps no other warrior in the history of Israel.”

He added that Netanyahu’s leadership helped avert what he described as a looming nuclear threat from Iran, which he claimed was ‘a complete elimination’ of a potential atomic weapons programme.

Trump slams Netanyahu trial as politically driven ‘Horror Show’

President Trump denounced Netanyahu’s ongoing trial as a ‘horror show’, accusing the Israeli legal system of pursuing it for political reasons rather than legitimate legal grounds.

Netanyahu has been under investigation since 2020, facing allegations including the acceptance of luxury gifts such as cigars and champagne, and offering regulatory benefits to media figures in return for favourable coverage.

Trump brushed off the charges as trivial and exaggerated.

“I just learned that Bibi has been summoned to Court on Monday for the continuation of this long-running politically motivated case, ‘concerning cigars, a bugs bunny doll, and numerous other unfair charges’ in order to do him great harm,” the US President posted.

He further added, “Such a witch hunt, for a man who has given so much, is unthinkable to me.”

Calling for an end to the proceedings, Trump asserted, “He deserves much better than this, and so does the State of Israel. Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should cancelled immediately, or a pardon given to a great hero who has done so much for the State.”

He concluded by reaffirming the strong US-Israel relationship, declaring that just as Washington had supported Israel in the past, it now stood behind Netanyahu.

“Perhaps there is no one that I know who could have worked in better harmony with the President of the United States, me, than Bibi Netanyahu. It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu,” the US President remarked.

Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving Prime Minister, maintains his innocence and has repeatedly accused the judiciary and media of orchestrating a campaign to force him from office.
