Karkardooma Court
In a recent ruling, Karkardooma Court has denied bail to Vikas Rawat, accused of mobile snatching in the Madhu Vihar area. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai stated that while “bail is the rule and jail the exception,” Rawat’s case does not align with this principle due to his alleged repeat offenses.
The court noted ambiguity in the roles of Rawat and a co-accused, as it remains unclear who was driving and who was on the back seat during the incident. According to the investigating officer, Rawat has a history of similar offenses, which the court weighed heavily in its decision.
Judge Bajpai emphasized that first-time offenders may receive leniency, but repeat offenders should expect stricter treatment. While even serious crime suspects may be granted bail under extenuating circumstances, the court found no such justification for Rawat, particularly since he was apprehended immediately after the crime by a police officer.
Additionally, the court highlighted the ongoing investigation, pointing out that the chargesheet has yet to be filed. Therefore, it concluded that granting bail at this stage would be inappropriate.
