The Indian Railways will be illuminating 343 Lord Ram-named stations nationwide in advance of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22.
Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have the highest number of stations named after Lord Ram. In terms of the most stations bearing the name of the deity, Bihar comes in third place. The famous cultural association of Lord Ram in India is reflected in these 343 stations, which are dispersed across various states. The Railways’ commitment to celebrate the Ram Temple’s consecration occasion is a reflection of their longstanding relationship with Lord Ram.
This initiative will transform numerous stations bearing similar names, including Ramachandrapuram in Andhra Pradesh, Ramagiri in Karnataka, Ramagundam and Ramakistapuram in Telangana, Ramanagaram in Karnataka, Ramannapet in Telangana, and Ramapuram in Andhra Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh, home to several Ram-named stations including Ramchandrapur, Ramganj, and Ramchaura Road, will also be decorated and lit up.
For devotees who want to travel to Ayodhya to visit the Ram Temple and then return to their home places, the Railways are also planning to provide “Aastha special” trains from a number of locations.
Except for operational stoppages, these unique trains won’t have any other stops, and tickets must be purchased for a round-trip journey, which means that return tickets must be purchased as well.
The Railways will shortly make public the dates on which more than 200 of these trains will begin service around the nation. It then intends to operate up to 1,000 rail excursions to Ayodhya during the course of the next 100 days.
