HM Shah Targets Rivals Over Punjab Drug Crisis

HM Amit Shah has stepped up his attack on the drug crisis in Punjab, accusing political opponents of failing to address the state’s concerns over narcotics.

In a video shared from his Punjab rally speech, Shah criticized people who, according to him, remain ‘drunk on drugs’ while insulting Sikh Gurus.

He said such people cannot free Punjab from its ‘chitta’ addiction, using the Punjabi term commonly associated with illicit synthetic drugs.

Shah claimed that only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can make Punjab drug-free. He made the remarks while addressing a large gathering of supporters, with party flags visible throughout the rally.

The BJP leader placed the drug issue at the centre of his political attack, linking narcotics with concerns affecting Punjab’s families and young people.

The state has faced persistent concerns over substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, making the issue a recurring theme in political campaigns.

Shah’s remarks also seek to draw a contrast between the BJP and its political rivals ahead of electoral contests in Punjab.

His criticism comes as political parties continue to debate responsibility for tackling drug trafficking, addiction and rehabilitation in the state.

The video highlights the BJP’s effort to make the drug crisis a prominent electoral issue while presenting the party’s proposed approach as a central part of its Punjab campaign.
