Grand Alliance Gears Up For Second Coordination Committee Meeting In Patna On April 24

As preparations for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections intensify, the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) will convene its second Coordination Committee meeting on April 24 at the Congress state headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram in Patna.

Following the first round of discussions, the alliance is now focused on planning a joint campaign strategy and launching a state-wide mass movement targeting the ruling government.

Top Leaders To Attend High-Stakes Strategy Session

Key figures expected to attend the meeting include Tejashwi Yadav, Chairman of the Coordination Committee; Krishna Allavaru, Congress’s Bihar in-charge; Rajesh Ram, State Congress President; and Mukesh Sahani, Chief of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP).

Representatives from Left parties—including CPI-ML, CPI, and CPI-M—will also be present.

According to senior Congress leaders, the session will focus on crafting a unified campaign across all districts, with joint rallies and programs planned for May.

While the final seat-sharing formula will not be decided at this stage, each party is expected to present its initial seat demands, setting the stage for negotiations.

VIP’s Inclusion Prompts Realignment Of Seat Sharing

One of the major developments leading into this meeting is the inclusion of the Vikassheel Insaan Party, which did not participate in the 2020 Assembly elections as part of the Grand Alliance.

Their entry necessitates a reallocation of seats among the alliance members.

In 2020, the seat-sharing breakdown was as follows:

  • RJD: 144 seats
  • Congress: 70 seats
  • CPI-ML: 19 seats
  • CPI: 6 seats
  • CPI(M): 4 seats

With VIP now joining the fold, each party may have to accommodate adjustments, potentially reducing their respective seat counts.

Leadership Debate Heats Up

Although the April 24 meeting will not finalise the chief ministerial face, internal friction has already surfaced.

The Congress leadership, reaffirming Krishna Allavaru’s earlier statements, has maintained that the alliance will choose its CM candidate at a later date, likely closer to the elections.

However, leaders from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have taken a different tone.

Senior party members, including Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha and state spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari, have publicly supported Tejashwi Yadav as the alliance’s CM face.

Observers widely view their comments, delivered shortly after the April 17 meeting, as a direct rebuttal to Congress’s neutral stance.

Building Momentum Despite Differences

Despite differing views on leadership, the April 24 meeting aims to unify the alliance’s campaign strategy and finalise early action plans.

Discussions will centre on coordinated district-level events, public engagement programs, and a joint narrative aimed at challenging the current state government’s record.

Political observers view this meeting as crucial, not only for formalising alliance logistics but also for managing internal dynamics ahead of a highly competitive electoral battle in Bihar.
