Delhi Braces For Unstable Weather As Light Rain And Thunderstorms Predicted Over Weekend

The national capital is likely to experience another spell of wet weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms from Friday through Sunday, 3 August.

In its Thursday bulletin, the IMD also highlighted the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Northeast and eastern India over the next week.

In contrast, Delhi’s rainfall intensity is to ease slightly starting Friday.

Friday’s forecast for Delhi includes very light to light rain, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms or lightning.

Temperatures are likely to remain below the seasonal norm, with maximums between 33°C and 35°C and minimums between 23°C and 25°C.

Wind patterns are likely to shift throughout the day, beginning from the northeast in the morning, turning to the southwest by afternoon, and moving southeasterly by evening and night, at speeds between 10 and 15 kmph.

Showers are likely to persist through 2 and 3 August, with mostly overcast skies and occasional thunderstorms expected.

Daytime temperatures will likely stay between 34°C and 36°C, while night temperatures are forecast to range from 24°C to 26°C, slightly lower than the average for this time of year. Winds will mostly come from the northwest and northeast at 10–20 kmph.

Thursday Rain Brings Waterlogging and Delays

On Thursday, several parts of the city saw moderate rainfall, with isolated pockets receiving heavy showers, leading to localised waterlogging and delays in traffic movement.

The highest temperature recorded in Delhi was 29.9°C, five degrees below the norm, while the minimum was 24.7°C, two degrees below the seasonal average.

The IMD noted that Delhi has seen uneven rainfall in recent days, causing disruptions for commuters in many areas.

As the weather remains unpredictable and more showers are likely, authorities advise residents to stay alert, especially during busy travel periods.
