Court Orders Case Against Police Personnel Over Encounter With Robbery Suspect

Two Cow Smugglers Arrested In Ghaziabad After Police Encounter **Mahakumbhnagar, February 6** — In an effort to make the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025 at Sangam's Triveni confluence an unforgettable experience for visitors worldwide, over 10,000 Mahakumbh souvenirs have been dispatched to countries such as Russia, Germany, France, Israel, and Italy. These souvenirs, which include fruit saplings like Prayagraj's famous guava, bel fruit (aegle marmelos), and bananas, symbolize the cultural and spiritual essence of the event. **A Vision for a Green and Cultural Mahakumbh** Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's "Green and Cultural Mahakumbh" vision has garnered widespread appreciation from Mahamandaleshwars and the President of the Akhada Parishad. In Mahakumbhnagar, neem, basil, and fruit-bearing plants were distributed as 'Mahaprasad' by the Bade Hanuman Temple and Baghambari Math to devotees from both India and abroad, promoting a message of environmental sustainability. **Special Ceremony Held at Shrimath Baghambari Gaddi** A special ceremony was organized at Shrimath Baghambari Gaddi in coordination with the Mahant of Bade Hanuman Temple at Sangam Ghat, Prayagraj, and Shrimath Baghambari Peethadheeshwar Pujya Balveer Giri Ji Maharaj. During the Achala Saptami Mahotsav, saints and devotees were honored with plants, bags, and plates as part of the Mahaprasad. Shrimahant Balveer Giri described receiving a plant in Prayag along with the bags and plates as a "profound blessing." **Commitment to a Green Mahakumbh** Manas Chirvijay Sankrityayan, the youngest Ganga Sevak and environmentalist, was honored by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his dedication to the "Green Mahakumbh" initiative. "With the blessings of Shrimath Baghambari Peethadheeshwar Balveer Giri Ji and CM Yogi, we are fulfilling the concept of a Green Mahakumbh," he stated, emphasizing his commitment to the environmental vision of the event. **Praise for CM Yogi’s Leadership** Shri 1008 Mahamandaleshwar Sati Giri Ji Maharaj praised both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath for their reverence toward the saint community. He remarked, "The power of Mahadev and the grace of Adiyogi Gorakhnath Ji are working through them, making this Mahakumbh a historic occasion not only for India but for the entire world." He also noted the overwhelming enthusiasm of the devotees at Sangam, stating that even a large space was insufficient to accommodate them. He thanked the Chief Minister for making Mahakumbh a greener and more inclusive event. **Support from Saints and Religious Leaders** Akhada Parishad President Mahant Ravindra Puri also expressed gratitude for CM Yogi’s tireless efforts in protecting Sanatan Dharma and supporting saints. Along with other prominent religious figures, including Mahamandaleshwars Swami Premanand Puri, Swami Lalitananda Giri, Swami Anantanand, Mahant Omkar Giri, and Mahant Radhe Giri, Mahant Ravindra Puri praised CM Yogi's vision for the successful organization of Mahakumbh 2025.

The District Court of Prayagraj has ordered the registration of a case against twelve police personnel, including the in-charge of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Charwa police station in-charge, following an encounter with Vijay Kumar Soni, a robbery suspect.

The case stems from a petition filed by Anju Devi, the mother of the deceased suspect Vijay Kumar Soni, residing in Hanumanganj, Paitha police station, Koraon. Devi’s application, submitted to the Chief Judicial Magistrate under Section 156(3), alleged that on September 10, 2023, Charwa police station in-charge Vinod Kumar Singh and SOG in-charge Siddharth Singh, accompanied by other officers, forcibly took her son from their home with the intent to kill him. The petition further claimed that on September 12, 2023, police shot Vijay in the shoulder during a staged recovery of stolen goods. He was admitted to Swaroop Rani Hospital, where he died on September 21.

Robbery Incident

In response to the petition, the court directed the police to register a case and conduct an investigation.According to the police, the encounter occurred when four suspects involved in a robbery of a jeweler near Tika Ka Purwa village clashed with law enforcement. Police confronted the suspects, who had stolen Rs 11,000, a bag of silver, gold jewelry, and a mobile phone, in Gungwa Ki Bagh. During the shootout, two suspects sustained injuries, and a bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of the SOG in-charge. The injured robbers then received treatment at Swaroop Rani Hospital.

The incident began when robbers targeted Anoop Kumar Soni, a jewelry businessman from Samsapur village, on September 8, 2023. The robbery, which involved three men on an Apache motorcycle, led to a police investigation. Using CCTV footage, the police identified the suspects and traced them to a location where the encounter took place. The police recovered the stolen items, including jewelry, weapons, and cash, and arrested the suspects.

The police have registered multiple cases against Vijay Kumar Soni, Ashish Nishad, and Rahul Pasi, including charges of robbery and theft. The court’s order to investigate the encounter highlights ongoing concerns about police conduct and the handling of suspects.
