India, A Semiconductor Hub Of The Future: PM Modi At Semicon India 2024

At the Semicon India 2024 event in Greater Noida, PM Narendra Modi underscored India’s emergence as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing, emphasizing the country’s robust ecosystem, ease of business, and expansive talent pool.

In his keynote address to a full house, PM Modi confidently proclaimed, “Chips are never down in India,” inviting international players to invest in the nation’s thriving semiconductor sector.

He highlighted that India offers a compelling growth story supported by an integrated ecosystem designed for success.

The Prime Minister asserted, “Come, invest and create value and we will provide an integrated ecosystem for your growth. India has 20 per cent of the global talent in semiconductor design which is consistently growing. We are building an 85,000-strong semiconductor workforce with technicians, R&D experts and designers.”

PM Modi also introduced the Rs 1 lakh crore ‘Anusandhan fund,’ intended to bolster fundamental research and prototype development, including in semiconductors.

This initiative however aims to stimulate private sector innovation and commercial research.

“India provides a reformist government, a growing manufacturing base, and an aspirational tech-oriented market,” PM Modi further asserted.

The government’s commitment includes the development of a substantial talent pool of 85,000 engineers and technicians, supported by partnerships with over 113 universities, research institutions, and R&D organizations.

During the event, PM Modi visited the exhibition area, engaging with companies about their semiconductor advancements.

The Prime Minister’s leadership has garnered praise from global semiconductor CEOs, who lauded his vision and impact on the industry.

On the previous day, top executives from leading semiconductor firms, including SEMI, Micron, NXP, PSMC, IMEC, Renesas, and others, met with PM Modi at his official residence in New Delhi, expressing admiration for his leadership and the positive influence he has had on the global semiconductor landscape.
