Congress protest march to Kerala DGP office turns violent, water canons used to control crowd

On Saturday, a protest by the opposition Congress towards the Kerala DGP office turned violent as protesters threw stones and sticks at the police, who then had to use water cannons to stop the crowd.

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) organized the march in protest of the alleged police abuses against its workers during their agitation against the Left government’s “Nava Kerala Sadas” outreach program.

These leaders included KPCC chief K Sudhakaran, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly V D Satheesan, and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala.

Sudhakaran and Chennithala, felt the tear gas was clearly felt by the tear gas used by cops who were then helped by Congressmen to a nearby car.

The moment Sudhakaran finished his speech, the party men began climbing the barriers placed outside the DGP office to break through the security cordon.

Satheesan addressed the cadres while the water cannon was in use. The meeting broke off suddenly.
