Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi to Start ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ From Manipur on Sunday

Leading Congressman Rahul Gandhi will set out on his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur on Sunday. The party wants to establish the tone ahead of the Lok Sabha elections by highlighting issues like social justice, unemployment, and rising costs.

Congress calls the yatra an ideological protest

The Congress declared the day before the yatra that it was an ideological protest rather than an electoral one, aimed at ending the “anyay kaal” (period of injustice) that lasted for ten years under the Narendra Modi administration. Rather than the party’s first choice of Imphal, a private ground in the Thoubal district will be used to flag off the yatra.

The Congress was granted conditional permission by the state government to start the yatra from the Palace Grounds in the state capital, thereby limiting the total number of participants. Consequently, Congress chose to use a different location.

The reason behind the start of the Yatra?

Additional limitations have been put in place by the Thoubal district administration, including an hour-long limit and a 3,000-participant cap. The party hopes the yatra will be as “transformative” as Rahul Gandhi’s previous cross-country march, passing through 100 Lok Sabha seats in 15 states.

To restore the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity ingrained in the Constitution, Congress has said that they have started the yatra because the government has denied it the opportunity to bring up public concerns in Parliament.

The Yatra will end on March 20

The 6,713 km yatra will be travelled primarily by bus but also on foot. Before coming to an end in Mumbai on March 20 or 21, it will travel through 110 districts in 67 days.

The Congress wants to use this yatra to draw attention to issues that affect everyday people, while BJP is focusing on the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple on January 22.
