Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta kicked off a month-long door-to-door cleanliness campaign on Friday from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Kashmiri Gate, aiming to raise sanitation standards and improve workplace conditions across the national Capital.
The initiative will span all districts of Delhi and bring together civic agencies, government departments, and community members in a coordinated effort to clean public and government spaces.
Taking the lead, the Chief Minister joined the campaign by sweeping the ISBT premises and inspecting office facilities on site.
During the visit, she expressed concern over the poor state of infrastructure, highlighting leaking roofs and broken furniture in government offices.
“If our officers are working in such conditions, how will they benefit anyone? Water is dripping from here, and this is where an officer’s chair is placed. This is the kind of furniture provided, where people are likely to sit and work,” Gupta remarked, pointing to inadequate workspaces and unsanitary surroundings.
Dissatisfied with the current state of maintenance, she further called for urgent reforms to improve public infrastructure.
In a key announcement, the Chief Minister said plans would begin immediately to identify land for a new, unified Delhi Secretariat, stating that the existing setup no longer meets the needs of a modern administration.
The campaign will target a wide range of areas, including residential colonies, commercial spaces, transport nodes, and government offices. It aims to build a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility.
CM Gupta urged all citizens to participate actively in the initiative.
The campaign will also involve schools, NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, and local volunteers, with support from municipal corporations and district-level authorities.
