A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan has been reported missing from his unit headquarters in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, officials confirmed on Friday.
The missing trooper has been identified as Sugam Choudhary of the 60th Battalion, who was posted in the Panthachowk area of the city.
According to officials, he was last seen on Thursday evening, after which he could not be located.
An official familiar with the matter stated, “A massive search operation was launched to trace the missing BSF trooper who was posted in the Panthachowk area of Srinagar. The trooper belonging to the 60th Battalion was stationed at Panthachowk. However, despite extensive efforts in nearby areas, he remains untraceable.”
A formal missing persons report has been filed, and an investigation is underway.
Authorities have not yet determined whether the disappearance was voluntary or if other factors may be involved.
This incident comes at a time when security across the Union Territory remains on high alert. This follows recent anti-terror operations and a major crackdown on cross-border militancy.
The region continues to be under tight security. This follows Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 massacre. In that incident, 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam.
All three terrorists involved in that attack, including LeT commander Suleman Shah and his aides Abu Humza and Jibran Bhai, were neutralised by joint forces during Operation Mahadev in the upper reaches of Dachigam National Park on 28 July.
Wider Crackdown on Terror Networks
In the wake of these developments, security forces have intensified their operations across Jammu and Kashmir. They are targeting terrorists, overground workers, and suspected sympathisers.
Authorities are also focusing on dismantling the broader terror support infrastructure. This includes financial and logistical networks allegedly linked to drug trafficking and hawala funding.
The search for the missing BSF jawan continues, and more details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
